Peter Jackson has always maintained that The Two Towers is "the second act" of his epic undertaking, and perhaps the true greatness of the middle chapter will only be clear when viewed in context. As a stand-alone film, however, The Two Towers is not quite as good as Fellowship. (Nor, indeed, does it extend the universe or deepen the relationships in the manner of The Empire Strikes Back.) That it still merits the full five stars is merely an indication of how high the benchmark has been set. Picking up pretty much where Fellowship left off, this is a considerably darker film, with Frodo (Wood) falling further under the influence of the Ring (giving rise to some seriously spooky hallucinations), while Saruman (Christopher Lee) wreaks even more havoc. There's also the first appearance of Saruman's spy, the sinister Wormtongue (Brad Dourif), and the complex Gollum, a brilliant combination of computer trickery and raspy vocals from Andy Serkis (the campaign for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar starts here). Other newcomers include Faramir (David Wenham), the understandably miffed brother of the recently deceased Boromir, and Éowyn (Miranda Otto), who spends much of her time casting winsome glances in the general direction of Aragorn (Mortensen). Eventually the plot complexities become more coherent, setting the action up for the forthcoming finale, The Return Of The King. As we've come to expect, this is spectacular stuff - from an opening which sees Frodo troubled by dreams about the demise of Gandalf, through to the climactic Battle Of Helm's Deep, which is nothing short of breathtaking. But Jackson cleverly tempers the louder, brasher sequences with some heartstring-tugging moments - peasants despondent as they are forced to abandon their villages, Aragorn and Arwen's troubled relationship, and, of course, the return of Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen, superb as ever), one of the film's most powerful, memorable images that may well leave Ring devotees a little misty-eyed. However, those who still believe that the trilogy is beyond criticism may find their views challenged by The Two Towers. It's just as long as the first film, but gets the heroes no closer to a final victory. And, where the first movie developed its emotional tone from the brightness of The Shire to a darker climax, the sequel is more of a one-note affair, shadowy in both look and content. This is particularly true of the Ringbearer's quest, which adds the not-insignifcant Gollum to the party, but suffers more than the other story strands from the cross-cutting and finishes with a nearly identical pep talk from Sam to the tearful speech that climaxed Fellowship. Of course, given the nature of the material, and Jackson's desire to be faithful, this is all understandable. And by the time we all end up under siege at Helm's Deep, it's unlikely anyone will give a toss about narrative arcs: like Gollum, this is simply gob-smacking, mind-blowing, never-seen-before stuff. Verdict - It may lack the first-view-thrill and natural dramatic shape of Fellowship, but this is both funnier and darker than the first film, and certainly more action-packed. An essential component of what is now destined to be among the best film franchises of all time. 5/5 - Caroline Westbrook, Empire Magazine

That Damned Ring. RELEASED IN 2002 and directed by Peter Jackson, “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” adapts the second part of JRR Tolkien’s popular fantasy trilogy about adventures on Middle-Earth. The surviving ‘Fellowship’ of the first film has been divided into three small groups for this one: The Hobbits Frodo and Sam (Elijah Wood and Sean Astin) team-up with the mad Gollum (Andy Serkis) to make their way to Mordor, but are captured by Faramir (David Wenham), the brother of the deceased Boromir. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas the Elf (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli the Dwarf (John Rhys-Davies) encounter the once-great King Theoden (Bernard Hill), who has fallen under the spell of Saruman (Christopher Lee) via his devious minion Grima Wormtongue (Brad Dourif). Meanwhile the Hobbits Pippin and Merry (Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan) try to enlist the help of huge tree creatures. Gandalf is also on hand (Ian McKellen). These story threads culminate in the great Battle at Helms Deep in the third hour. This three-hour fantasy/adventure starts out more engaging than the first film, which was laden by its overlong, convoluted and (for the most part) unnecessary prologue. Like that movie, the characters are colorful, the tale is imaginative, there’s a lot of brutal action rounded out by quieter moments and everything LOOKS and SOUNDS great. Unfortunately, after the first act, Jackson opts for CGI porn (excessive use of CGI with the corresponding dizzying visual effects). The first film did this too, but this one ups the ante and so there’s not as much spectacular New Zealand cinematography (i.e. real forests, mountains, rivers, etc.). If cartoony CGI is your thang then you’ll likely appreciate this installment more than me. There are other problems: While the characters are imaginative, they’re also shallow and rather dull, at least for mature people who require more depth to maintain their interest. Also, the wide-spanning (meandering) story with numerous characters and hard-to-remember names tends to be disengaging. I was never much captivated by the characters and their causes, although uber-fans of Tolkien might be. Another problem is the lack of prominent female protagonists. We have Miranda Otto as Éowyn, Théoden's niece, who falls in love with the noble Aragorn and that’s about it, except for cameos by Liv Tyler as Arwen and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. “Mythica: A Quest for Heroes” (2014) cost LESS THAN $100,000 to make, which is a mere fraction of the $94 million it cost to make this blockbuster and the filmmakers knew enough to include a couple of prominent babes as key protagonists in the story. Despite these negatives, “The Two Towers” was an ultra-ambitious undertaking and is a must for fantasy/adventure aficionados who liked the first movie. THE MOVIE RUNS 2 hours 59 minutes and was shot in New Zealand. GRADE: B-/C+

This is up there with some of the best sequels I can think of. Taking everything that "The Fellowship of the Ring" started, and cranking it way past 11, "The Two Towers" is the ultimate rising action to an awesome climax. It has everything you could ever want out of a sequel, more action, more story, proper introductions to new characters, passion, and above all, respect. Respect is the key to this entire series. Respect for the source material, respect for the audience, respect for the characters. Characters are maturing, their personalities growing, and don't even get me started on the effects. The special effects in this have aged like a fine wine. The biggest fault this series could've run into down the line is special effects that didn't age well, but they've aged beautifully. Gollum in this looks as real as he ever did, and the mix of practical effects is greatly appreciated. The climax in this is God tier to me. Once the battle of Helm's Deep starts, the film goes into overdrive. Throwing so much action at you, yet it never outlives it's welcome, it never feels too long. It's executed to perfection, cutting between different scenarios that are all important in their own way. Peter Jackson crafted a masterclass of a film here, and one of the best sequels to ever grace a screen.

The Two Towers steps up to the plate and delivers an even better movie than the first. The action scenes are exciting and very well done, and the cinematography, editing, CGI, and especially score were all phenomenal. One of my frustrations in the series in general is the lack of secondary themes beyond the pull and power of good/evil and the ring as a representation of power. However, I liked how the movie delved deeper into that dichotomy and did a great job of developing characters. I loved Serkis' work as Smeagol as well. The Two Towers does not drag at all and is riveting all the way through despite the long run time.

YIFY, I wanted to take a second to tell you how much I appreciate all your efforts on a daily basis for us as a community, and let others know why YIFY (pronounced, wi-fi) is GOD.

He gets BluRay Quality Digital movies out before they hit DVD, and uploads almost every movie. This guy puts in hours and hours daily. Like a full time job, or better yet like non stop community service.

They are compressed to the perfect Quality/Size. The 720p looks great for laptops and tablets.

The 1080p versions YIFYs releases look very good even on my Huge TV screen . 70" Sharp Aquos Quattron LED - 1080p - 240Hz

The did a test of YIFY's quality on the movie "Star Trek, Into Darkness."

I downloaded a BOZX;s 12.38gb version and compared it to YIFY's 1.95gb. Honestly, there wasn't much different. Certainly not enough to justify the 650% size increase.

Your cable company will send you a letter for 2 reasons. Excessive downloading, & DLing a torrent being tracked.

If you are a heavy downloader, you still won't DL enough data to raise any flags being the movies are small. And none of YIFY torrents are being tracked.

Also if you want a movie library to be proud of, on an external, you can fit between 1,500 -3,000 movies on a 3TB external for $129USD.

I am sick of the haters complaining that they want 5.1 audio. Go DL those 10-15gb movies if you want that. I will stick with Stereo which sounds awesome and plays perfectly on 99% of all speaker systems from Iphones, to tablets, to laptops, to the speakers built into TVs. I even prefer my home audio to be stereo.

Pleas stop hating on YIFY. The perfect balance for most people between size/quality is where YIFY lives. There are many reasons for this being the ideal size. I can barely tell the difference because there isn't one.

YIFY, You are the king of the pirate bay movies. Please don't let the haters get you down. I was motived to write this rant after reading a few haters remarks. YIFY has been a the GOD of TPB movies.

Don't hate. Makes you look like the greedy, selfish dirtbag who doesn't get the big picture in the first place. DL somewhere else, or better yet, go buy it. There needs to be a new Skeleton for YIFY, instead of VIP, there needs to be a GOD skeleton.

YIFY has his own website, but I propose to TPB community that December 28th be YIFY day (his 1st release back in 2009 on TPB)

12/28 Every Year should be YIFY day. He puts 10,000 gifts under everyone's tree. He should get the respect he deserves. From the entire planet earth, THANK YOU YIFY! Perfect day too, everyone is broke after xmas, but you don't need $ to hang with YIFY.

There is nothing wrong with this torrent!!!!!!!!!

Stop complaining about the audio. It's really annoying, because when I'm looking for a torrent with good quality, there are always idiots rating the torrent way too low, making me wondering what's wrong with the quality.

!!!THIS TORRENT HAS GOOD QUALITY BOTH VIDEO AND AUDIO!!!

I enjoyed watching this movie again on my 40'' 1080p LCD TV. I get what I want for the filesize. If I want full quality I would've downloaded a torrent 10+ GB on size.

AUDIO/VIDEO = 8 (Meaning that combining all the factors, this torrent is GOOD)

PS, the subs do indeed not work automatically with VLC, but you could just replace it with a working one from the internet.

The only way to watch it!

I'm usually ok with the mediocre/halfway decent videos put out by Yify, especially since there are so many of them, but the video and audio quality of this torrent make me regret this torrent. The video is generally good in the torrent, but every few minutes it digitizes and goes blurry for about 10 seconds. But it's the audio that's the real issue in this video. Throughout the entirety of the video, there are noises that sound like rain drops falling on a tarp. I'm quite certain it's not my computer, and I know it's not my speakers. I'm using VLC in Linux and I'm using Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers.

That being said, I'm not bashing YIFY. This is the only movie that has been of poor enough quality to comment on. The rest are on par with what I would expect out of a file of the nature. I would recommend to others, avoid this file. Find another.

People who want to complain about audio quality should shut up and buy the movie. This is free (and illegal), so if you're going to download it enjoy it as-is. "This thing that I stole isn't good enough!" is a ridiculous complaint. Just enjoy the fact that it's free.

Honestly... the quality is awful. I mean intolerably, unwatchably bad.

I have no idea what the "lovers" are watching (opposite of haters, right?) - but either people have terrible eyesight, terrible hardware, or we're downloading two totally different movies. I've tried CCP/MPC-HC, VLC, and a half dozen other players - I can't watch YIFY movies without cringing and wincing, at both the audio and the video. Blocks everywhere, ringing artifacts, pixel loss, dark shades all blur together, red shades blur together, action blurs together, audio outright hurts my ears.

Yes, I would rather take up 6x the space for something watchable. Too bad YIFY sucks up all the seeders and I can't even find BOZX anymore...

It's like people saying McDonald's is better because it's more popular and cheaper. It's more compact and transportable than a big steak at a nice restaurant... Even worse would be some ahole telling me to enjoy my McDonald's because he's giving it to me for free. I wouldn't eat it for free, and you couldn't pay me to sit through a 3.5-hour movie at this quality...
