With a movie like this you wonder how all of the otherwise, main characters will work together and support the story. No problems here. While as might be expected, R. Downey Jr. comes across largely central, it is still a good mix and IMHO the best scenes in the movie involve the generated Hulk character. With that kind of successful melding of characters, Hollywood-scale egos and even computer generated characters; you have to give it up to the writers and director to make this the successful film that it is.

**A long format review from 2012** My new favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe film, undoubtedly! Order goes thusly; 1. The Avengers 2. Iron Man 3. Thor 4. Captain America 5. Iron Man 2 6. The Incredible Hulk I had the privilege of going to Sydney and watching this almost a full three weeks before it’s American release, in a special advance screening for fans and a handful of critics. I drove up and back on a day trip with my mate HRV, spent over $400 between us… So worth it. I think perhaps my expectations of The Avengers were too high. In fact I know they were, even so, I feel that it almost managed to meet them. All but two of the fears I had about this epic were quashed without a doubt. I initially was worried about Mark Ruffalo helming the role of The Hulk/Bruce Banner after taking over from Edward Norton who was ousted after his first appearance. My complaints were completely unfounded however, as Mark Ruffalo presents us with an at least as good Marvel Hero. In terms of entertainment, The Avengers is one of the greatest feats ever produced. At the screening I went to, I actually missed more than a couple of lines due to the fact that the entire bloody cinema was in hysterics from some classic Joss Whedon (Director - Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse) humour. The squabbles between these larger than life characters are not quite up to the peak that Jon Favreau’s Iron Man & Iron Man 2 sit on, but in terms of film in general, they are some of the better interactions I’ve ever seen. The only weak points I really have to whinge about are both quite minor, and perhaps can be rectified in the MCU future. Firstly, Thor’s return to Earth (whilst brilliantly dramatic and pretty) was quite weak in terms of exposition. That said, this isn’t a Thor movie, so we don’t need to know everything that happens to him. Also, in next year’s Thor 2, it is very possible we’ll discover more specific details about the first few scenes of his return. Secondly, Loki’s army also came across to me quite weakly. In case we have any Marvel aficionados in the crowd, I won’t spoil it by telling you who they’re supposed to be, but in general the whole army was essentially a meat shield used to bump out scenes in which The Avengers get to kick ass. A very enjoyable part of the film, but one that doesn’t really drive the story at all. I feel the only way I can adequately describe just how much you need to see this movie (in cinemas) is this: For those of you who understand me, you will be know and be aware of just how much I fucking hate the concept of Blu-Ray. I am going to buy a Blu-Ray player, a HD television, and Blu-Ray discs, just so that I will get more special features when The Avengers is released. Never have I even considered doing such a thing before. The Avengers doesn’t get into your mind and rape it in the best way possible like Revolver or Donnie Darko. It doesn’t get into your guts and turn them with nostalgic violence like the brilliance in Doomsday or Outpost. It gets into your heart, and leaves you not just wanting, but needing more. Long live the MCU! 90% -Gimly

After the recent disappointments from Marvel, notably Thor and the abysmal second instalment of Ghost Rider, this was a pleasant experience. The special effects are dazzling, the plot is acceptable and the heroes are not making total idiots out of themselves just because the director wanted some “depth” to their characters. Sure there is a little bickering in between them but not too much to distract from the fun. I’ve always liked Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal of Tony Stark and his sharp tongue. I did wonder how they where going to get the Hulk in there since he’s supposed to be uncontrollable but they did it. Okay they downplayed his uncontrollability a bit but I can live with that. I absolutely loved the “puny god” scene (if you haven’t seen the film yet you’ll have to see it to know what I mean, I wont spoil it in advance). I have to say that I found Thor himself a bit underwhelming again though. I just expect something more imposing as the good of thunder. But then I’m Scandinavian so… Anyway, this was a great film. I enjoyed it very much.

One of the few movies to actually make me feel like a kid again, Joss Whedon was the perfect filmmaker to do this film. Everyone gets their time to shine. The script juggles every plot point and character moment with clarity and ease. It's funny, smart, and visually jaw dropping. Definitely lived up to the five movie hype.

I give this 10 Stars based on it being not only better than the trailer and the hype made me thing it would be, but also that it was the first time anything the size and scope of the Marvel Cinematic universe was pulled off successfully. Having Joss direct this movie lives and dies on character interaction. This movie is on the definitive list in my opinion even just for that.

When the world is threatened by Loki who's determined to bring an army of evil-doers to Earth, a couple of superheroes are gathered together in order to form a team and defeat the upcoming invasion. The only thing that apparently stand in the way is their ego, each one of them having an idea of his own, while teamwork is a word which apparently they don't understand. It's a movie which features a great invasion of Earth while Ironman, Thor, Captain America and a couple of others must fight back to defeat it, and at the same time, struggle to work together as a team. It's one of those movies which amazes through its visuals, presents a good but overused plot in which MARVEL Superheroes show- off their powers while saving the world. As I said before, it looks astonishing, the characters are well described and put into picture, also very well played by their actors, the fighting sequences are top-notch and almost everything is very good. Of course, except the plot which simply wasn't enough to make it a masterpiece. It is good enough to make such a movie entertaining and sustainable, but not good enough to make it truly great. I like these kind of movies, where very popular characters with superpowers fight their way through saving the world, but it tends to be a bit boring to see how the world is attacked by a not so impressive force of evil, this time led by Loki (very well played but not so impressive as villain), over and over again. Oh, and as a result, the ending is very predictable. Something with a bit more depth could have helped a lot in terms of story. Yes, they tried to add a bit of additional suspense and even comedy through their opposing characters, almost making them fight each other, but it isn't enough from my point of view to make it a truly great movie.Overall, it's a must see for Marvel fans, for superhero fans and for everyone looking to have a good time. You won't be disappointed by any aspect of it. Just don't expect a breath-taking plot, as there won't be one.

The Avengers is one of these rare movies where it lives up to all the tons of hype it has gotten! It has made over 1.5 billion dollars, and it has received high praise from both fans and critics. And the success of this movie is very well deserved! The really great thing about this movie doesn't come from all the action, humor or visual effects... It is to see all these characters interact with each other in one room! Joss Whedon truly was the man for the job, and he impresses once again with his ability to portray each character as meaningful as the other. Everybody counts! There isn't one hero, but six of them! And they are all relevant and meaningful, plus all their character development is superb... All of them! Whedon has my full respect! The visual effects in this movie are out of this world! It really is spectacular and a joy to watch! The cinematography is likewise beautiful in this movie! But in the technical department all my praise and full respect goes to Alan Silvestri! His score for this movie blew me away! Especially, the "Avengers Assemble" tune! No gripes from me in the technical department! As for the cast they are all terrific! Robert Downey Jr. is easily my favorite and probably the funniest in this movie! Mark Ruffalo makes the best Bruce Banner aka "The Hulk" to date, with a serious and human, yet comedic performance! Chris Evans is still quite good as Captain America. As far as performances go, this guy is probably the weakest. But he's still an awesome actor! Chris Hemsworth isn't a remarkable actor either, but he has nice charisma and fits the role as Thor! Scarlett Johansson is smoking hot and sexy, and much more relevant than she was in Iron Man 2! Jeremy Renner was Agent Clint Barton aka Hawkeye! Samuel L. Jackson was epic in the role of Nick Fury! Tom Hiddleston is really strong and serious villain!. Stellan Skarsgård and Cobie Smulders is also good in their supporting roles!I've chosen to judge this movie with what it is: a fantastic superhero-movie! And for that, it has to get a 9 for me!...

This is the best one of the three "Avengers" movies that come out. This is my favorite film in MCU film it I think my number three favorite film in the MCU universe films I am not sure. It is a decent action film with pure badassery. Excellent performance from Robert Downey Jr. ,Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg , Samuel L. Jackson. I love this movie to death I have enjoy it so much. We have Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Widow and Thor a superhero team in this movie fighting ultimate evil from outer space lead by Loki and his army Chitauri fleet launching an invasion on New York. Great direction from Joss Whedon he directed perfect "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" we need Joss Whedon back because the Russo brothers are ruining the franchise of Avengers. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was a great villain I absolutely enjoyed his character. I love the costume's design for the superhero team. I love the special effects CGI and designs for the Chitauri bad-ass action. Captain America is my ultimate favorite superhero he saves all civilians trapped in a building from Chitauri Army. He orders police officers to evacuate all the civilians a true hero. When Loki (Tom Hiddleston) enters earth from The Tesseract, an energy source of unknown potential, opens a portal through space carrying a strange spear with a blue glowing tip. With the spear he takes control of the minds of several SHIELD personnel, including Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) and Agent Clint "Hawkeye" Barton (Jeremy Renner), to aid him in his getaway. With controlling mind of Dr. Erik Selvig he is building a device built that can open a portal to the Chitauri home world over Manhattan, summoning a Chitauri invasion. It is up to superhero team Avengers to stop Loki and his mad invasion recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) director of the spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Before the team starts working together they have to learn to trust and depend on each other if they want to stop Loki. Great adaptation of MCU superhero team from the characters how they become the mighty defenders of the earth called "The Avengers". I love the theme song from Alan Silvestri who made a music score in the film. Great performance from Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury I love his so much. Justice League (2017) should have learn from this movie because "The Avengers" is a good superhero movie at least it is not boring movie like was Justice League at least I can get in to this movie with not been bored. Hulk smashes everything including best fight from Hulk and Thor. Captain America is a bad-ass while Iron Man is a hero saving New York and whole New York from alien invasion with the spear Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow closes the portal Chitauri world.Decent movie, bad-ass action in this film I have no words, it is definitely my third favorite MCU Marvel superhero film. I will take it anytime over Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 I just hate those movies. 10/10 still my favorite I have this movie on DVD and Blu-ray in my collection.

I think any viewer, buying a ticket for this film, is aware of what he expects to see on the screen. Recently, the film industry has been criticized for the abundance of projects of a purely entertaining nature, including the "Avengers". However, if you look closely - it turns out that there is not so much really good and quality entertainment cinema. Some films are boring, some are bluntly stupid; and, for the most part, it turns out that "entertainment" can be called only a few luxuriously shot scenes, and at other times the viewer is forced to entertain himself with popcorn and cold cola. So the "Avengers" is a completely different case.I'm not a fan of comic books, and the attitude towards this genre is rather negative, because of its total zashtamovannosti and uncompromising pathos. However, seeing such a spectacle as the "Avengers", it's hard not to leave your sarcasm aside, and fully enjoy the proposed attraction. Director Joss Weedon, in the beginning, caused me to distrust, in spite of the mass of laudatory reviews, his "Mission Serenity" did not impress me at all; However, in this case, a clear and confident direction is felt throughout the film. Weedon is also responsible for the script, and here I want to note how competently it is worked out to fill the picture with action to the eye, not forgetting about the meaningfulness and clear drawing of the characters' characters. It is a balanced scenario that makes the film look "in one go," and the characters look so charismatic, as necessary for a positive perception of the picture. Undoubtedly, Marvell approached the project very seriously, presenting "Torah" and "First Avenger" last year, these films being technically quite successful in themselves, at the same time became an effective prelude to the main movie event Marvel. And the creators did their best to make the film truly an event that surpassed its historical predecessors. Since almost all the characters are familiar to the viewer, and the story itself is simple and understandable - it makes it possible to fill the picture with spectacular action to the point that it seems unbelievable how all this can fit into one film, even if it lasts more than two hours. At the same time, this is not the case when the entire film is thrown at different locations, trying to diversify the action in this way. The bulk of events takes place on the ship Nick Fury and in New York, but everything is done so qualitatively that not how much it tires. The scene of the massacre in the city in the final is fascinating, although the "scene" is not called the language, because of its wide time frame. For a very long time the heroes will fight the enemy; everything will jump, fly and explode; and all this in an excellent high-quality 3D. And although the film is not without pathos, I was pleased that the question of the police "Who are you to command here?" Captain America did not begin to pronounce his name, which the Russian viewer perceives with his teeth, but simply showed in deed.Of course, there is a lot of humor in the film. However, if, for example, in the same "Sea Battle" creators used humor as a saving thread, literally pulling the picture from the abyss in certain places; in "Avengers" it is, albeit an obligatory, but an equal part of the overall structure, which works in a complex. This is not the option when you close your eyes to some flaws due to some pluses (an abundance of humor, for example) because there are no obvious shortcomings in all parameters of the production of the film. And the humor itself - yes, sometimes even stiff and sarcastic, chuckling over the heroes and reducing the extra degrees of pathos. In this regard, it is not superfluous to mention that Joss Weedon also had a hand in creating the scenario "Huts in the Forest", but here, of course, everything is in a softer framework. To say that "Avengers" is a typical entertaining movie would be fundamentally wrong - in fact Marvel was removed practically by the standard representative of the genre, which uses every minute of its timing as effectively as possible. Mass of spectacular action, magnificent picture in high-quality 3D, wonderful soundtrack, sarcastic humor and nice characters. It is this film that should be considered a grandiose opening of the summer season of blockbusters, as it really sets a very high level.
