  • Action Adventure Comedy Family
  • Mild-mannered Paul Blart (Kevin James) has always had huge dreams of becoming a State Trooper. Until then, he patrols the local mall as a security guard. With his closely cropped moustache, personal transporter and gung-ho attitude, only Blart seems to take his job seriously. All that changes when a team of thugs raids the mall and takes hostages. Untrained, unarmed and a super-size target, Blart has to become a real cop to save the day.

  • Description

Paul Blart is a mild-mannered man who works as a security guard in a New Jersey mall. For years, he has applied to become a cop, but he always fails the physical exam because he has hypogmycemia and tends to pass out when his blood sugar is low. One day, a gang of organized criminals put the mall under siege and take hostages. Blart becomes trapped inside, and because of his sense of duty, refuses to leave. He thus becomes the police department's eyes on the inside and attempts to stop the criminals on his own.

Blundering, but well-meaning mall cop tries to be John McClane (“Die Hard”) An affable mall officer in New Jersey (Kevin James) takes his job seriously while taking care of his daughter and pursuing a cute kiosk attendant (Jayma Mays). When the mall is taken over by a gang of organized thugs, can Paul Blart rise to the challenge? Whether or not you’ll like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” (2009) will depend on if you appreciate Kevin James and his goofy, unprofane brand of humor, as depicted in The King of Queens, “Zookeeper” (2011) and “True Memoirs of an International Assassin” (2016). While it’s not as good as “Zookeeper,” it’s not far off. After the first 25 minutes or so you’ll find yourself engrossed in Paul’s life; you understand him and like him. You feel for the man as he gazes longingly at a receipt with the handwritten name of his romantic interest. And you’ll root for him and laugh when a serious threat engulfs the mall. Keir O'Donnell plays Paul’s greenhorn partner, Veck. He’s reminiscent of a young Tim Roth. In other news, Mays has the cutest wide-eyed face. The film runs 1 hour, 31 minutes and was shot entirely in Massachusetts (Burlington, Braintree, Peabody, West Roxbury and Bedford). GRADE: B

Never did I think a movie about a Mall Cop could change my life. I walked in laughing at the idea. However once inside the theater pure emotion segwayed from the screen to my heart. Sadness, joy, terror, all at once. This movie revolutionized the movie industry for me. I recently re watched it to see if it stood the test of time. I Was more than surprised to see the themes relating to us now more than ever. Themes of bravery, the kindness of a good mans heart, and not succumbing to the fear within you in the face of danger. That is why this movie gets ten whole stars. Kevin James brings phenomenal acting as always to his role as the titular Paul Blart. His performance is on the same level as Emma Stone's in La La Land. Kevin James is a prime example of someone who deserves an Oscar and for this movie that particularly shows. He plays the tough and emotional role of a single father trying to provide for his elderly mother and child. He is a failure to the world and needs to bring himself up to a higher standard. Masterful writing and acting compliment this piece well. Thank you Kevin James for this creation.

While this is certainly not cutting edge humor or a great film by any stretch, I still enjoyed it very much and it was perfectly appropriate for my children to watch with me. What I liked is that it showed that good guys can win in the end, even if they are fat & stupid, and even get the girl (even though they probably have no idea what to do with her once they catch her, but that's another movie).Definitely not an award winning film, but it was fun to watch.

This would have to be one of most un-comedic movies I've ever seen. Basically this is nothing more than an updated version of any Marx Bros movie, where you have a ridiculous premise full of equally ridiculous sight gags. Kevin James is Paul Blart, a shopping mall cop who rides a ridiculous Segway and who takes his job, or "shopper safety" as he calls it, a little too seriously. While his colleagues simply see it as a job where you punch in and punch out, (like all mall security guards do), Blart takes it up several notches to an area bordering on pointlessness where every random meaningless mall incident becomes a do or die mission. Naturally there's the usual ho-hum jokes-du-jour throughout; one where he pulls over an elderly man on one of those reprehensible mobility scooters for driving recklessly amongst shoppers. The man couldn't have cared less and drives off with Blart being dragged along the floor behind him. I'm not sure where the joke is, but it's supposed to be funny. Next he gets in a punch-up with 2 legged hippo in Victoria's Secret and she punches the stuffing out of him. If this were anywhere else but America I could see her probably getting away with it, but in a court-happy country like the U.S, I highly doubt it. Judge Judy would be all over it like flies on a turd. I don't remember too much after this as it was around this point that I started to really lose interest. I think there's some feeble attempt at a story when the mall is subject to a heist where they are after credit card codes or something, Paul Blart somehow manages to save the day, gets married and I'm counting the minutes of my life that have been lost forever. I was wondering when this was going to ever get funny and it simply never did. I get that comedy is subjective but normally you'd expect to find some semblance of comedy within a movie that's supposed to be funny, even if you as an individual don't happen to find everything funny. If you enjoy watching a bumbling fool getting himself into poorly scripted situations and unfunny situations, then you'll enjoy this. If you want to have a proper laugh, this movie is a waste of time.
